Best Time to do the Kedarkantha Trek
Kedarkantha trek has a bargaining height of 12000 ft. It is offering it’s best time to the visitors from mid December to March. This trek is allowed during winters especially. The snow trek is much more interesting right!? A popular best adventurous trek among Himalayan ranges. From mid December ,you can observe snow fall there. And continues until April end. Actually you are allowed in any of the months in the year. But to experience the snow beauty lies here, try to visit from the months of mid December to April. Simply, a snowy wonderland will shine in front of you. Judah ka Talab and Hargaon are the most recommended campaigns of snow.
Day1: Through the transportation services drive Dehradun to Sankri base camp.
Day2: Trek starts from Sankri base camp to juda ka talab.
Day3: From Kedarkantha base camp to kedarkantha peak and next to Haragaon campaign.
Day4: From Haragaon to Sankri. From there you can individually split into your desired transportation services to arrive at Dehradun.
Kedarkantha Trek – Detailed Itinerary
Day1: Through the transportation services drive Dehradun to Sankri base camp.
Head to Sankri village in the early morning and arrive at the Sankri base camp by evening. There you can enjoy stunning sunsets and village beauty. You can arrange some other things to make last minute preparations for your heading trekking plan. And get a good rest at Sankri base camp all night. You can reach Sankri by any mode of transportation such as buses,cabs,taxis etc.

Duration: 10 – 11 hours
Altitude: 6,400 feet
Day2: Trek starts from Sankri base camp to juda ka talab.
Distance: 5 km
Duration: 5 hours

You’ll be ahead on a rough trail trekking upto 5 km from Sankri base camp through all over the lush green meadows and pine and oak plantations. From there you’ll reach the Juda Ka Talab campaign. As the name suggests ,this was a frozen lake. Actually once this was a combination of two lakes,later it was conjoined as one.
Distance: 4 km
Duration: 3 hours
Altitude: 11,250 feet
From Juda Ka Talab, you need to trek 4 km starting from lush green thick pine forests after you’ll be introduced to the sloppy mountain ranges which grab your views and move you into Kedarkantha base camp. This was bargaining at an altitude of 11,150 feet. Day4: From Kedarkantha base camp to kedarkantha peak and next to Haragaon campaign.
Distance: 6 km
Duration: 6 – 7 hours
Altitude: 12,500 feet to 8,900 feet
Kedarkantha base camp which is iconised by a Trishul towards the sky placed near the 2 hrs travelling distance away from base camp. You are best recommended to start your trekking before dawn so as not to miss out the dazzling sunrise from the summit of Kedarkantha peak. Gangotri, Kinnaur Kailash and Yamunotri etc ranges will Mingle you around as inviting. From there you’ll be moved to Hargaon campsite.
Day5: From Haragaon to Sankri. From there you can individually split into your desired transportation services to arrive at Dehradun.

Duration: 4 hours
Altitude: 6,400 feet
Your trek starts from Haragaon to Sankri which takes less time as you are descending. While moving back to Sankri you’ll get introduced to har ki dun valley with stunning picturesque beauties. Once you reach Sankri you can return to Dehradun via various modes of transportation services. Buses can be available only during the period of 5 AM to 7 PM.
Accommodation Options During Kedarkantha
Sankri is the village which offers accommodation only. There are also few hotels and homestays for staying. All are offered with reasonable prices and Homestays offer a more budget-friendly option while giving you an authentic experience of the Himalayan way of life.
Food Options during Kedarkantha
Except at Sankri,it’s highly impossible to find tea houses and some food options like Maggie and other snacks etc. Although the chances of finding food centres are uncertain, carrying nuts, energy drinks are recommended. Pre planning before heading to the trekking and resolving the issues with the accomodation and food is the best thing. The ones who are planning to trek individually ,they need to carry the stove and required ingredients and fuel throughout the trek camp.
Permits & Local Guide for Kedarkantha Trek
Local guide is must and compulsory according to the rules declared by the Govind Vihar National Park of forest department. With a local guide ,you are not sure that you are safe. But you must allot a local guide for your safety and emergencies and to help over trails. And you can grab an enthusiastic and historical background and also great culture invoked there. Pre-booking during peak seasons with a local guide is compulsory. Local guide costs upto a 1000/- . And to permit you into the trek per day costs 50 INR.
Things to Carry for the Kedarkantha
Torch which sets at your head ,a mandatory item.

Kedarkantha trek won’t have ATMs, so maintain and bring the cash wherever you travel there.
There are no signal towers for phones and only BSNL signal acts actively, so plan to have a BSNL sim card.
November to January is the peak season so, pre-booking is compulsory.
Bring torch lights and backpack of minimum 50 ltrs under 10 kg weight.
